Description
Afara (Terminalia superba), also known as Limba, is a versatile and attractive hardwood native to tropical West and Central Africa. The veneer produced from Afara typically displays a light golden to pale yellow-brown colour, often accompanied by subtle grey, olive, or darker brown streaks. Occasionally, it may exhibit a striking figure or striped appearance when quartersawn, known as “Black Limba”.
Afara veneer is widely appreciated for its even texture, straight to slightly interlocked grain, and its excellent workability. It is commonly used in furniture, cabinetry, interior panelling, musical instruments, and decorative applications where a light-toned and visually appealing surface is desired.
It takes finishes well, offering a smooth, refined look, and its relatively low density makes it ideal for projects where weight is a consideration. As a natural product, minor variations in colour and grain may occur, and small imperfections can be present, contributing to its organic charm.
Afara veneer offers a clean, contemporary look with a warm, natural feel—a reliable choice for both traditional and modern design aesthetics.
