Description
Vavona Burr, also known as Redwood Burr, comes from the root or burl sections of the giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum), native to the western United States. This highly decorative wood is celebrated for its intense, swirling grain patterns and rich colour, which ranges from warm salmon pink to deep red or orange-brown. The burr (or burl) structure creates dramatic figuring such as bird’s-eye, quilted, and mottled effects, making each piece uniquely mesmerising.
Lightweight yet relatively stable, Vavona Burr is ideal for fine woodworking applications such as veneers, luxury furniture, musical instruments, turned items, and decorative boxes. It can be delicate to work with due to its intricate grain and sometimes brittle nature, but it finishes to a high lustre and takes polish exceptionally well.
Because of its natural burr formation, pieces may feature small voids, bark inclusions, or minor cracks. These are typically stabilised or incorporated into the design, contributing to the wood’s organic charm.
Highly sought after for its beauty and rarity, Vavona Burr is a premium choice for artisans seeking a visually striking and richly textured material.
