Purpleheart – 2” x 2” x 24”

£11.11

Description

Purpleheart (Peltogyne spp.) is a highly prized hardwood found in Central and South America, specifically in the rainforests of Brazil, Guyana, and Suriname. It is renowned for its striking purple heartwood, which can vary from deep violet to reddish-purple, often showing dark brown hues as it matures. The grain is generally straight but can display beautiful interlocking patterns, and the wood’s fine to medium texture adds to its natural shine.

Famed for its workability, Purpleheart is relatively easy to machine, although its density and possible resin deposits can pose challenges. It is a popular choice for high-quality furniture, cabinetry, flooring, and decorative inlays. Its remarkable strength and durability make it suitable for specialized uses such as boatbuilding, turned items, and musical instruments. The wood can be polished to a smooth, glossy finish, enhancing its rich coloration and depth.

Purpleheart is exceptionally dense, providing excellent dimensional stability, impact resistance, and stiffness. Its high durability and natural resistance to decay and insects make it suitable for both indoor and outdoor uses.

As one of the most unique and sought-after hardwoods on the global market, Purpleheart remains a favorite in fine woodworking. Sustainable forestry practices help ensure its continued availability for future generations. Its vivid color, strength, and longevity make it a preferred choice among artisans and manufacturers.
