Milk Pear (Xylocarpus granatum) is a rare and exotic hardwood native to the coastal regions of Southeast Asia, particularly found in countries like India, Malaysia, and Thailand. This distinctive wood is known for its rich, warm hues, ranging from pale yellows to golden browns, often with a subtle, creamy texture that gives it its name. The wood’s fine, straight grain and smooth finish make it highly prized for its elegant appearance and workability.
Milk Pear is a dense and durable hardwood, with a high resistance to wear and moisture, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications. It is commonly used in the construction of fine furniture, cabinetry, and bespoke joinery, where its smooth texture and rich colour can be fully appreciated. Additionally, Milk Pear is often employed in the crafting of decorative items such as turnings, inlays, and veneers, thanks to its unique aesthetic qualities. The wood also takes well to finishing, allowing artisans to bring out its natural beauty with a lustrous polish.
