Mexican Para Kingwood (Dalbergia congestiflora) is a rare and visually striking hardwood native to Mexico and parts of Central America. Closely related to traditional Kingwood (Dalbergia cearensis), this exotic timber is prized for its vivid colouration, typically featuring rich purples, dark violet-browns, and black streaks, often interlaced with subtle amber or reddish tones. The grain is generally straight to slightly interlocked, and the wood’s fine, dense texture contributes to a naturally high lustre when polished.
Exceptionally dense and durable, Mexican Para Kingwood is well-suited for small luxury items, turned pieces, fine inlay, knife scales, instrument components, and high-end decorative work. Its natural oils can make gluing more challenging, but it machines and finishes beautifully when handled properly.
Due to its rarity, limited supply, and dramatic appearance, it is often used sparingly in applications where visual impact and exclusivity are essential. Some pieces may include natural imperfections or minor cracks, particularly in highly figured or aged material.
Mexican Para Kingwood stands out for its rich coloration, density, and timeless elegance, making it a cherished material among fine woodworkers and artisans worldwide.
