    Description

Anjan (Hardwickia binata) is an exceptionally strong and dense hardwood native to the Indian subcontinent, primarily thriving in the dry forests of India and Nepal. It is recognized for its rich, dark brown to reddish-brown heartwood, often highlighted by darker streaks that add to its visual depth. The grain is generally straight but may sometimes feature interlocking patterns, while its medium to fine texture contributes to a smooth and subtle sheen.

Highly regarded for its durability, Anjan is difficult to work with due to its extreme hardness but is widely used for applications that demand strength, such as robust furniture, tool handles, flooring, and agricultural tools. Its remarkable density and resistance to wear also make it suitable for specialized uses like turned objects, structural beams, and decorative elements. Once finished, it develops a refined, polished surface that accentuates its rich tones and intricate grain.

This hardwood is incredibly tough and compact, offering excellent resilience against impact, moisture, and abrasion. Its natural resistance to decay ensures a long lifespan, even in challenging conditions.

As one of the hardest woods found in South Asia, Anjan remains highly sought after for its strength and longevity. Sustainable harvesting is crucial for maintaining its availability in the future. Its durability, resilience, and bold aesthetic make it a favored material among craftsmen, woodworkers, and industrial manufacturers.
