Mexican Cocobolo (*Dalbergia retusa*) is a highly prized tropical hardwood native to Mexico and Central America, renowned for its vibrant colours and unique grain patterns. Cocobolo features a rich palette ranging from reddish-brown to deep orange, often with striking streaks of black, purple, and yellow. This dense and oily wood is exceptionally durable and naturally resistant to decay and insect damage, making it ideal for high-end applications such as fine furniture, custom knife handles, musical instruments, and decorative turnings. Due to its high oil content, Cocobolo polishes to a stunning, glassy finish without the need for heavy finishing products. However, it can be challenging to work with, as it requires sharp tools and may produce dust that can cause skin irritation in some people. Mexican Cocobolo’s beauty, durability, and rarity make it one of the most sought-after woods in luxury woodworking projects.
