Description

Indian Shisham (Dalbergia sissoo)
Indian Shisham, also known as North Indian Rosewood or Sheesham, is a premium hardwood native to the Indian subcontinent. Widely valued for its strength, beauty, and versatility, it has been a traditional choice for fine furniture, joinery, and carving for centuries.

The heartwood ranges from golden brown to rich reddish-brown, often darkening with age, while the sapwood is lighter in contrast. Its grain is usually straight but can sometimes be interlocked or wavy, producing attractive natural patterns. With a medium to coarse texture and good natural lustre, Shisham works well in both traditional and modern designs.

Renowned for its durability, Shisham is resistant to wear and offers excellent stability once seasoned. It machines and turns well, accepts finishes smoothly, and is often used in cabinetry, flooring, decorative veneers, and musical instruments.

⚠️ Note: As with many natural hardwoods, individual pieces may display variations in colour, grain, or small natural defects, which add to the timber’s unique character.
