Description

Ironbark (Eucalyptus paniculata) is a premium Australian hardwood known for its exceptional strength, density, and durability. Native to the eastern regions of Australia, this species has earned a reputation as one of the toughest and most resilient timbers available, making it highly valued in both structural and decorative applications.

The heartwood of Grey Ironbark ranges from light to dark grey-brown, sometimes with reddish or chocolate undertones, while the sapwood is typically pale. The grain is generally straight with a fine to medium texture, and it finishes beautifully to reveal a natural sheen and striking colour depth.

Due to its hardness and density, Grey Ironbark can be challenging to machine but rewards skilled workmanship with a stunning and long-lasting result. It is highly resistant to decay, termites, and wear, making it ideal for heavy-duty flooring, decking, furniture, outdoor structures, and joinery.

As a natural hardwood, minor surface checks or small cracks may be present, especially in thicker cuts or air-dried material. These are considered part of the wood’s rugged character and are often embraced in bespoke work.

With its combination of beauty, performance, and longevity, Grey Ironbark remains a top choice for craftsmen, builders, and designers seeking a timber that truly stands the test of time.
