Description
Leadwood (Combretum imberbe)
Leadwood is an exceptionally dense and durable African hardwood, renowned for its extreme hardness and deep, dark brown to almost black colour. With a very fine, tight grain and high natural oil content, it polishes to a smooth, understated finish and is among the heaviest timbers in the world.
Highly resistant to wear, insects, and decay, Leadwood is prized for turning, knife handles, tool components, sculptural work, and specialty woodworking where strength and longevity are essential. Its density makes it challenging to work, but the results are extremely rewarding for experienced craftsmen.
⚠️ Note: Due to its density and natural growth, Leadwood may contain small checks or surface cracks. These features are typical of the species and form part of its authentic character.
