Snakewood (Brosimum guianense), native to South America, is one of the most exotic and rare hardwoods, prized for its distinct, snake-like patterned grain. Its unique appearance, characterized by dark, irregular streaks on a reddish-brown to dark brown background, resembles the skin of a snake, hence the name. Snakewood is incredibly dense and heavy, making it one of the hardest woods available. Due to its density, it can be challenging to work with but finishes to a smooth, high polish, offering a luxurious appearance. It’s commonly used for fine decorative items, musical instruments, knife handles, and specialty woodturning projects. Its rarity and beauty make it a highly sought-after wood for collectors and craftsmen.
