Thuya Burr – 1.5″x 1.5″x 12″ – B Grade
Thuya Burr (Tetraclinis articulata) is an exotic and highly decorative hardwood native to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and parts of North Africa. It is best known for its richly figured burrs, which are sourced from underground root burls rather than the tree’s trunk. The heartwood exhibits a warm golden-brown to reddish hue, often enhanced by intricate swirling grain patterns and a dense distribution of small, dark knots. The fine texture and natural luster of Thuya Burr give it a luxurious appearance, making it one of the most visually striking woods available.
Highly valued for its rarity and beauty, Thuya Burr is primarily used for high-end woodworking applications such as luxury furniture, fine cabinetry, and ornate inlays. Its distinctive grain and aromatic properties also make it a favored choice for crafting jewelry boxes, knife handles, and writing instruments. Despite its density, the wood is relatively easy to work with, carving smoothly and polishing to a high-gloss finish that enhances its intricate figuring.
Thuya Burr is a dense and durable hardwood with excellent stability, ensuring long-lasting performance in fine decorative projects. Its natural oils provide some resistance to moisture and decay, although it is typically reserved for indoor use due to its exclusivity and value.
Due to its limited availability, Thuya Burr remains a highly prized material in luxury craftsmanship. Sustainable harvesting and careful management of its natural habitat are essential to preserving this exceptional wood for future generations. Its rarity, rich color, and mesmerizing grain patterns make it a favorite among artisans and collectors seeking a truly unique and exquisite wood.
