Description
Ziricote (Cordia dodecandra)
Ziricote is an exotic hardwood native to Central America, particularly Mexico and Belize, and is highly prized for its dramatic appearance and rarity. Its heartwood ranges from dark chocolate brown to nearly black, often contrasted with lighter grey or olive tones. The wood is renowned for its striking spider-web or landscape-like grain patterns, which make every piece unique.
With a medium to fine texture and natural lustre, Ziricote machines and finishes well, polishing to a smooth, elegant surface. It is favoured for high-end furniture, luxury veneers, musical instruments (particularly guitars), and decorative small items where visual impact is essential.
Ziricote is dense and strong, offering good stability, but due to its interlocked grain and natural oils, care may be needed when gluing or planing. Its rarity and beauty make it one of the most desirable tropical hardwoods in fine woodworking.
⚠️ Note: As a naturally grown wood, Ziricote may display small cracks, surface checks, or irregular shapes, especially in highly figured sections. These are considered part of its unique character rather than defects.
