Matumi (Podocarpus Falcatus) is a durable and visually appealing hardwood that originates from southern Africa, particularly found in regions such as South Africa and Mozambique. This exotic wood is highly regarded for its rich, dark brown to reddish-brown colour, which often deepens with age, along with a fine, straight grain. Matumi’s dense, tight grain and subtle lustre make it a sought-after material for a variety of high-end woodworking applications.
Due to its excellent workability, Matumi is often used for crafting fine furniture, cabinetry, and decorative joinery. Its strength and stability also make it an ideal choice for flooring and paneling, where its smooth finish and rich colour can create a luxurious and refined aesthetic. The wood’s fine texture and natural resistance to wear and tear ensure it stands the test of time, making it a popular choice for both functional and ornamental purposes.
